Clockwork Accord: The Overhaul of Dannae
The small frontier settlement of Node was largely successful due to its strategic location between several sources of iron and coal, which is precisely why the Imperium burned it to the ground and set up their own automated mining operation. Before the Clockwork had gained a significant foothold, UCSA troops launched an attack that covered the escape of Node’s few surviving refugees. Grateful to the UCSA for saving his life and hungry for revenge at the loss of his friends and family in the attack, Darius Shepard joined the army as soon as he came of age.
Darius, at the head of his elite Alpha Squad, led the United City States Army in many victorious battles against Imperium forces throughout the Clockwork War. Perhaps more importantly were the special operations he and Alpha Squad carried out in Imperium occupied territory. Towards the end of the war Darius was at the lead of the offensive that drove the Wayfarers’ Guild out of Tuathan territory, personally commanding the UCSA capital ship “Geargrinder.” After the war, he accepted a seat in the senate, despite its largely symbolic nature, and began to speak against the Echelon/Dregs caste system within the senate. This dissenting voice, no matter how discrete, drew much negative attention from President Arkwright and were it not for Darius’ slow descent into madness, owing to some mysterious “Butcher Pete,” he likely would have disappeared as many of the President’s vocal opposition have.
